For the past 53 years, Walter has lived Viet Nam’s history and watched her take her

place in the world community. During that time he has:

Served Two tours In Viet Nam, was wounded twice, and fought in the Battle of Binh Ba

Qualified as a Military Linguist

Studied East Asian History and Chinese

Attended the first gathering of Australian Veterans at the replica Long Tan Cross while working as a journalist for the Ten Network

Organised some of the earliest tours of Viet Nam for veterans, their families and friends and linked them up with their former enemies

Researched, wrote, and, and produced the acclaimed documentary “Vietnam Minefield” for SBS TV, interviewing soldiers from both side of the conflict

Searched for Australia’s six the Viet Nam War MIAs and successfully found the remains of two

Escorted US veteran Sammy L Davis to the site of the battle where he was awarded the Medal of Honor and introduced him to members of the VC unit he fought against

Took staff of the Australian War Memorial, including the Senior Historian, on a study tour of Viet Nam

Advised and appeared in episodes of the TV programs “Who Do You Think You Are” and Foreign Correspondent” and advised producers of several other programs including “The Team”

Led tours by motorbike, train, and bus throughout Viet Nam

Lived in a country village in Viet Nam for more than half a decade
