DESCRIPTION:
Dien Bien Phu is one of the most interesting and beautiful destinations in Viet Nam but sadly one that is much neglected. It is more than just the place of the famous 1954 Viet Minh Victory that drove the French from Viet Nam. It is a quiet underpopulated mountain community made of a number of ethnic groups. It has terraced rice fields, stilt houses, excellent local rice whiskey, and some of the friendliest people in Viet Nam.
EASY ACCESS AND QUALITY ACCOMMODATION:
You can get to Dien Bien from Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh cities by aircraft or by road from Sa Pa or Ha Noi. The town is starting to develop and has excellent accommodation at a local hotel or resort.
GREAT WEATHER AND NOT CROWDED:
Because of its mountain location, the weather in Dien Bien is exceptional. It is cool and humidity-free at night. Some mornings later in the year, you will wake up to a fine mist adding extra beauty to the place. By day it can be warm to hot with clear skies. And because it is not over-run with tourists, there's a quiet, slow, gentle feel about the place.
